The Approach was part of a viral email campaign by Cox Marketing Solutions for the MasterCard Masters golf tournament in 2007.
The game has the users hone in on their approach shot to the 18th green on the final days play. A hole in from here will win it!
The game was fantastically successful, with the highscores provoking us to double check the database to ensure there wasn’t something fishy going on.
Simple, effective and very addictive…
People were seriously addicted to this game. A number of users had well over 500 shots logged in our database. User ‘THEBIGMAN’ had 1491 attempts in one session.
The scene is based on the final 18th green at Huntingdale, with highly detailed illustrations, a responsive crowd who, err, clap like golfers, differing wind strength and direction, and variable weather conditions.
Simple in interaction, but highly challenging, The Approach doesn’t spoil a good walk like real golf does.
