Contracted by Acceleration Group to redevelop the NetAlert project Netty’s World, Millipede was tasked with improving the appeal of the site to early learners. Netty’s World helps young children learn about internet safety through a range of fun activities.
Designing for kids
Designing for kids is fun. Really fun. We chose a space theme to give us plenty of scope to create an exciting environment and generate a fun, creative atmosphere for the early learners age group.
Puppies are great, especially alien puppies! We decided that the original Netty character should have a sidekick, providing a great excuse to design a friendly alien puppy named ‘Pogo’.
Pogo appears throughout the site and can be played as a character in one of the new games, further contributing to the rejuvenation of the Netty’s World universe.
The vibrant redesign of the site includes new 3D cell shaded animation and illustration, a bubbly new interface, fresh audio treatment, and a much improved site flow.
Accessibility with families in mind
Emphasis was placed on ensuring the site’s accessibility to families with slow connections, and retaining the ability to bookmark individual pages. This was achieved through the use of accessible HTML and the structural segmentation of Flash activities.
In addition to building several new games, existing activities received a graphic makeover and transitional animations were incorporated into the site flow, helping to extend the storyline and sense of adventure. A new section was added for users to download wallpapers and a screensaver.
