Crank Media (now Acceleration Group) contracted Millipede to assist with the development and production of a number of LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Indonesian Learning Objects for the Department of Science and Training, Tasmania. Millipede assisted by completing some existing builds and developing some objects from the ground up and coordinating production.

Wayang Kulit

Students learn about traditional Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet) performances and develop their Indonesian language skills through creating a digital shadow puppet play.

This learning object focuses on shadow puppet plays as social occasions and important vehicles for traditional story telling in Java and Bali. It is intended as inspiration for working together to script and create shadow puppet plays in the classroom as well.

Penyelamatan binatang

This learning object present students in Year 8 with information in Bahasa Indonesia about an important real-world issue, the endangerment of species.

The ‘case study’ in Penyelamatan binatang (Animal rescue) is the orangutan. Students take the role of a freelance journalist who has put forward a proposal to write an article about this issue by looking at it from different points of view.

Students travel to four different locations in Indonesia and interview a different person in each location. Other information is available in each place as well. During the interviews, students are able to select text for possible use in their article. They also take photographs and write accompanying captions.

The article is written by building on to sentence starters using their own text or some of the collected text; and selecting accompanying photographs.

Perjalanan berbahaya

In Perjalanan berbahaya (Dangerous journey), students explore the life cycle of the Leatherback turtle and discover some of the reasons why this and other turtles have become endangered.

Not the nicest landing page in the world, but we weren’t involved in deployment. Oh well.
