Outcomes and recognition
FInalist at the eLearning Industry Excellence Awards 2009

The Commonwealth Government has declared 2009 as the Year of the Blood Donor, to coincide with the 80th anniversary of blood collection services in Australia.

As part of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s promotional activities, we were approached by Acceleration Group and Delphian eLearning to develop a comprehensive online educational package designed to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation amongst school children.

Engaging a youth market

Blood Buddies features an engaging blend of user generated video content, personal stories, animated characters and hard science. The feel is fresh and immediate, and serves to reinforce the vital role blood donation plays in the health of society.

Users gain knowledge of the need for blood, how blood works and the specifics of the donation process, and gain an appreciation of the value blood donation brings to the Australian community.

Intelligent deployment and development

With Blood Buddies, we were conscious of the need to manage an enormous amount of content within a dynamic, potentially sprawling Flash environment. To ensure site-wide accessiblity and responsive user interaction, we implemented intelligent loading strategies, streaming video and audio solutions and sophisticated memory management techniques.

Blood Buddies is built on solid object oriented principles, resulting in an adaptive, flexible application that was able to accomodate wholesale change requests and multiple specification shifts during the development phase.
